Note from the Principal:
Open Door Christian Academy has accepted I-20 students for more than 15 years.
We feel that they are a valuable and important asset to our school. We welcome these children and are happy to help find host families within our school families to care for these students. We have an excellent ESL teacher and a program that will ensure success in our school.
We welcome students at all grade levels 1st through 8th grade. Please contact the school office at 1-215-542-9795 to start this process, or follow the link below to begin printing out the necessary forms. International students are accepted all year long.
Thank you for your interest in our school.
Lois Glasstetter – Co-Principal
International Student Program
Our school was approved by Immigration and Naturalization Services and Homeland Security in 2002 to accept foreign students into our academic program. Over the years we’ve hosted children from Korea, Italy, Peru, Japan and China attend our school. We require these students to have English abilities, but also require their attendance in our ESL program offered during the school day. These children have enriched the diverse culture of our school.
Foreign students who wish to apply should complete the I-20 Student Application, the Family Application, submit requested reference letters, and the application fee (currently $325/non-refundable). Upon acceptance, we are able to issue an I-20 to qualified students for attendance at our school.
ODCA does not offer on-site housing. If you are unable to locate nearby housing we may be able to assist you in locating suitable host families.
Contact Tonya Bridges by email at email@example.com or call 215-542-9795 for further information.
About Our Program
At ODCA, we believe in helping our students reach their fullest potential. With this goal in mind, teachers are flexible and accommodating to those who are learning English as a first language. Accommodations and/or modification in classes are made so that the international students may experience success in their education journey. This means that adaptations are made for the International students, and these adaptations are created to meet each individual need.
Here are just a few examples:
- Students may be permitted full-credit corrections on their exams.
- Students may be permitted to use their books during exams.
- Students may be given extended due dates or completion times for assignments.
- Students may be allowed to use their translator during exams
- The student’s ESL grade may be averaged with their Literature/Reading/Writing grade
- The student’s ESL grade may be used as a supplement grade for their literature/reading/writing grade
