The proper participants in a Christian education
include the parent, teacher, church and pupil.
The first line of Christian education is not the school teacher.
Deuteronomy 6 points out that it is the home. Christian parents
have the obligation to live, talk and teach the "Fear
of the Lord" in the home. Furthermore, God holds them
responsible for the education their children receive. They
must therefore be vitally involved in their childrens' learning
processes.
Since the local church is a body of many individual members,
what is the responsibility of the individual members is also
the responsibility of the body as a whole. Therefore, the
church must take its role in the total education of its children.
One way this can be accomplished is through the implementation
of a Christian school under the auspices of the church body.
The last participant in a Christian education is the pupil.
This is important to recognize. A pupil is an active participant
in a Christian education and not merely a passive product
of it. Notice the words of the great teacher to his pupil
in Proverbs 2:
 |
My son, if you will receive
my sayings,
and treasure my commandments within you,
Make your ear attentive to wisdom,
Incline your ear to understanding;
For if you cry to discernment,
Lift your voice for understanding;
If you seek her as silver,
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
Then you will discern the fear of the Lord,
and discover the knowledge of God.
Proverbs 2:1-5 NASB |
The pupil who receives much out of a Christian education
is the pupil who puts much into it.
It is the desire of ODCA to produce students that have a genuine
love for learning about God and His world.
Accreditation
Open Door Christian Academy is dually accredited
by the Association of Christian Schools International (A.C.S.I.)
as a part of the Middle States Association. Our school has
been accredited for over 28 years shortly after the founding
of our school in 1975. The school community values the accreditation
process which gives us a thorough evaluation as our total
school program and we continue to receive a stamp of approval
by these accreditation boards.
Our preschool was accredited in 2006. This makes our school
one of three schools in the North East Region of A.C.S.I.
having a preschool through 8th grade accreditation. This is
quite a significant accomplishment.
